Road Map For Student Who Opt Engineering in B.Tech from Tier 3 College

We all are aware about that how much competition grows rapidly by each passing year.In engineering there are only 10,000 seats available for IIT's in India. Not everyone get selected in IIT's,NIT,IIIT's,Bits Pilani,VITEE etc.which are termed as A Tier college in terms of  teaching and placements.Even if your are not able to fetch a seat in  some Tier B college like your state government colleges and then persuing your engineering degeree in some renowned Tier 3 private college then don't worry this blog is for you.

After getting into the tier 3 college we all set our goals like some student want to do post graduation from IIT's,some want to get  goverment jobs by giving compitetive exams like GATE,IES,CDS etc, some want to get a software development job in product/service based. Most of the student have goal of tier 3 college to google and other companies like Amazon,Microsoft,Infosys,TCS,Wipro etc to name a few.

This blog is mostly centric towards the students who want to get a job of software developer.

road map to product based company
 engineering from tier 3

1st Semester:

There are about 4 to 5 theory subjects and 3 practical subjects in 1st semester like Maths, physics,Basic electrical engineering etc.Your Main focus is to score as much as possible in 1st semseter itself, because we already studied about these subjects in 11th and 12th.Try to get at atleast 8.5 C.G.P.A.Apart from it make some freinds who have interest in coding, explore your college, try to join extra curricular related activities clubs(if available),stay connected with your seniors.

  Summer Break:

Most of the Private College will give you to do some internship or they will give a mini  project. To get an internship immediately after 1st semseter is little bit difficult if you are a beginner in coding and didn't master any specific domain in past.

Mini project can be done quite easily. I will prefer some youtube channels for  that

1)CodeWithHarry Code with harry

2)Programming Knowledge Programming Knowledge

Apart from mini project you have to learn any one coding language between c++,,java, python, during this break .I will advice you to pick either java or python because you are going to learn C in 2nd semester which is similar to C++,the only major diffrence is that it is not Object Oriented and if you want to do CP(Compitetive Programming) in near future then go ahead with C++.

Now the main question arise from where you will learn these coding languages?

For free I  will prefer you  some great coding channels like

1)Harshit Vashist-Python  Harsh Vashist

2)Apni kaksha-Java  Apni Kaksha

3)Naresh Technologies-C++ Naresh Tech

4)Codewithharry Code with harry

5)Telusko Telusko

Special mention to "Geeks for Geek"and "W3Schools" websites from which you will gonna learn a lot in this 4 years of bachelor's degree for free.

For paid courses there are many platform but i will prefer you Coding Ninjas course of  "MERN STACK"either in java or python. You will gonna learn about the programming language fundamentals and DSA along with both front and backend website development including projects. It will be costly around 18.5k for 14 months but trust me its worth to be paid. There is also a scholarship test,if you get rank 1 in that then it will be free for you.

For more feautures visit thier website Coding Ninjas

You are gonna be solving problems very quickly and you are way ahead of your batchmates. If you complete  90% + of your course then you can even apply for TA(Teaching Assistant)internship where you are gonna solve doubts of the students for 2 hrs/day and got paid around 20k/month.

2nd Semester:

The main subject in this semester is Programming for problem solving in which u will be gonna learn either C or C++.Try to do more practice on solving problems on  platform like like "Geeks for Geek","Hackerrank","Leetcode" etc.Try to maintain at least 7.5 +C.G.P.A. in rest of  the semester.Participate in coding contest in your colleges or hackathons.

3rd Semester:

In this semsester the main subjects are DSA(which you already covered),COA(Computer Organisation and architecture).Just keep on practising DSA and fundamentals problem untill you got 90% confidence in solving questions. Now if  you think that your english is weak and you need to improve your personality development, well most of the college will provide pdp classes but that are not that effective in my opinion. There is a online paid course for that on "British School Of Languages"  i.e "Group Classes for English speaking & personality development week,duration-3 months,price-5k".In this course you are gonna learn grammar, improve your vocabulary and fluency while speaking english and the most important pdp training which includes interview prepration, business etiquette, telephonic conversation etc.If you think that you can manage this it by yourself then you can skip this course.

  Summer Break:

Again college will give you to do internship or mini project. Now you have gained sufficient amout of knowledge  of a particular language and web devlopment. So you can apply for internship on

1)Internshala Internshala

2)LetsIntern Let's Intern

3)Coding Ninjas Coding Ninjas

Do one more thing if you have opt for python as a language then buy "Data science and machine learning course" from coding ninjas which having some cool projects as well.

4th Semester:

The main subject in this semester are OS and TAFL.Just maintain C.G.P.A above 7.5 and make a profile on "LinkedIn" and "Github".Make a strong network on Linkedin which will  help you to fetch a job pretty easily.Attach your Projects on Github and Certifiate on Linkedin.

Rest continue your solving problems journey of "Fundamentasls and DSA". You can even try to solve question on "Codechef"and "Codeforces".Try you attain  at least 3 star on codechef and 2000+ rating on codeforces.

5th semester:

The main subject in this semester are DAA,DBMS,Web devlopment. You alredy have a little bit of knowledge of all three subjects as they are taught in Coding Ninjas"MERN STACK" course.Just maintain at least 7.5 C.G.P.A in this semester as well.

Now Start preparing for aptitude which include question of quant, logical, verbal, reasoning etc.For this  you will prefer youtube channel like "Carrer ride" for quant for free.

For paid you can go with "PrepInsta" "Aptitude Course" of 1.5k.Along with keep working on your communication skills and other soft skills. Now believe me you make yourself good enough for having a placement of min 12-15 lpa from any tier 3 college.

 Summer break:

Most of the students do internship in this period. But you have lready done that in your 3rd semester summer break. You can search for front/backend,data science internship which will easily give you around 25-30k/month.

6th Semester:

The main subject in this semester are Software Engineering and Computer Networks.Again just maintain above 7.5 C.G.P.A.Now Start building your Resume. You Can take help from multiple website like "Visual CV","Resume Genius"etc.to make an effective Resume.Note do not copy paste resume, you just have to be aware about the layout and structure of CV.

7th Semester:

The main subjects in this semseter are Artificial Intelligence and Data Mining. The work load of the academics is pretty low in 7th semester as there are only four subjects. All students are preparing for the placements in this semester.

Start Preparing for the Placements as the companies came in 7th semseter in most of the colleges. You can even give some mock interview to determine yours strength and weakness.Improve your weak point and have a confidence in yourself (well that automatically comes in you when you find yourself odd one out among your batchmates).

Summer Break:

If you get the placements(You got 99.99% placement even if you follow only 75% of the above Road Map) then start preparing for the final year project that you have to submit in 8th semester. And if by chance if you havn't placed on campus then dont worry there are many off campus coding test held from which companies hire freshers like "AMCAT" ,"E LITMUS","INFYTQ","TCS NQT"etc.

 8th Semseter:

The main subject in 8th semester is Distributed System and the Final year Project.Again keep maintain your C.G.P.A. above 7.5😅.Now as this is the last semester you got placed as well and have a plenty of time.So this is the right time to plan a trip with your friends  to  places like "shimla","nanital","goa"etc.Attend the farewell party and remember your old happy memories of colleges because you are gonna miss it so much in future.

Books:

1)Let Us C by Yashwant Kanetkar

2)Effective modern C++ by Scott Meyers

3)Head First java by Kathy

4)Head First Python by Paul Berry

5)DSA and DAA by Thomas H Coreman

6)Computer Architecture A Quantitave Approach

7)OS by Abhraham Silberschartz

8)TAFL by John E Hopcroft

9)DBMS by Abhraham Silberschatz

10)Computer Nerworks by Kurose and Rosss

Remarks:

1)Maintain overall minimum 7.0 C.G.P,A to sit in campus placements without any active backlog in 7th semester.

2)Try to get good marks in sessionals by completing assignments, projects and little bit of buttering of respected faculty. It will boost your C.G.P.A.

3)Maintain  above 75% attendance in a semsester as most of the college have this criteria. If you will not fulfill this then they will detain you from giving sessional exams which will directly effect your end semester result.

Fun Fact:

1)I myself got detained in 2nd semester first sessional😅.

2)The toughest subject according to me is TAFL😓.
